Hi, I’m Preethi, aka TheEagerTraveler
I HELP WOMEN OVERCOME THEIR FEARS, LIMITED BELIEFS, AND GENERATIONAL TRAUMA SO THEY CAN ADVENTURE OUTDOOR WITH CONFIDENCE AND ENJOY THE BENEFITS OF NATURE.
My Story
I’m your average girl next door who just wants to get away from the daily routine of my desk job. I love exploring the outdoors, feel less anxious and more confident when I’m outside. As a woman of color, I want to represent brown women in the outdoors, as growing up I honestly did not see many women that looked like me doing the things I enjoy doing in the outdoors like backpacking, hiking, fly fishing etc. I love photography and capturing the beauty of the outdoors to help motivate others through my images to get off their couch and explore their own backyard.
My mission is to empower other women of color to explore the great outdoors, regardless of age, sex, or fitness levels.
My vision is to create a hiking/outdoor community that will inspire others to get outside.
I’m an immigrant from India
Who did not grow up doing outdoorsy things, nor am I athletic.
I’m just an ordinary girl who immigrated to the US with my parents when I was 12. As an immigrant kid in my early teens, I faced racism growing up in the midwest as well as a lot of pressure to do well in school and to get a good job. When I was 16, I was diagnosed with Alopecia which was devastating as a teenager. As an Indian in college, the pressure to “succeed” forced me to choose the wrong major and career and I ended up working in the IT industry. I felt very unfulfilled in my IT career, I knew technology wasn’t my jam, so I decided to get an MBA and shift into Marketing.
After 1.5 years of working, I developed intense stomach pain for 6 months that led to surgery to remove a cyst
And I was diagnosed with endometriosis. I quit that job and 8 months later I found the perfect remote job in Marketing, although still within the technology industry. It was low stress and I could work from anywhere in the world. But after about 5 years of doing that, I started feeling unfulfilled. That’s how theeagertraveler was born. I start blogging about my travels and writing informative posts to help others get out and explore. During the pandemic when travel shut down, I began taking to the trails to give myself a break from the desk job and the tech world. I found that being on the trails made me feel less anxious, and surprisingly, more confident.
Life After Pandemic
Life After Pandemic
During the pandemic, theeagertraveler became an LLC and I became an entrepreneur.
I started getting paid to travel within the U.S. and show/encourage people to get outside. I haven’t yet quit my day job because so far I’ve been able to juggle both, while seeing if I can make enough to sustain myself as a travel blogger. It remains to be seen what the future holds for me. I’m passionate about sharing my journey, and showing others how they too can get outside and enjoy all the benefits of nature.
I write about destination guides and also share photography tips. But beyond this I also write about my experiences as an immigrant, how I monetize my travel & photography passion, road trips and wellness tips based on my own struggles and experiences with lumbar disc herniation and alopecia.
